    2014 MUNICIPAL ARTS ADVISORY BOARD ROUNDTABLE

It is an opportunity to report at a roundtable discussion what arts and cultural activities have taken place in each city during the past year and what is planned for 2014 and beyond.

    Creative Investment Program Application Workshop for Artists

    Broward Cultural Division invites interested participants from the community to a workshop the Creative Investment Program for Artists. The purpose of the Creative Investment Program is to assist eligible Broward-based practicing professional artists to fund small but complete, cultural projects in Broward County, for which applicants have not received funding through any other Cultural Division program. The project must be an exhibition, a performance, or other arts activity.
    Individual Broward-based practicing professional artists, eighteen (18) years or older, residing in Broward County, who have lived continuously in Broward County for the immediate twelve consecutive months prior to the filing date of application, may apply. The program supports eligible artists who have created a recognized body of original works of art within an artistic discipline over a sustained period of time, and pursue this work as a means of livelihood and/ or a way to achieve the highest level of professional recognition. Broward-based artists should demonstrate a history of professional artistic work during the past year, and the ability to create a strong artistic project and deliver the project at a public venue. Funds will be available on a non-matching basis for the use of the award recipient to support a project. An individual Broward-based artist may apply for up to $2,000 per award on a funds available basis. An individual artist may apply for one (1) Creative Investment award per fiscal year and shall not receive in excess of $2,000 in Creative Investment funding during any County fiscal year.

    Creative Investment Program Application Workshop (Not for Profit Organizations)

    Broward Cultural Division invites interested participants from the community to a workshop for the Creative Investment Program for Not for Profit Organizations.The purpose of the Creative Investment Program is to assist eligible Broward County not-for-profit cultural organizations with annual operating revenues of less than $100,000, to fund small cultural projects for which applicants have not received funding through any other Cultural Division program.
    The project must be an exhibition, a performance, or other arts activity. The workshops will also cover how to submit an online application.Organizations must be registered with the Florida Secretary of State as a cultural, not-for-profit corporation. They must have operated in their discipline(s) in Broward County for a minimum of one uninterrupted year following incorporation; and must have provided services in Broward County for a minimum of six months following the date of incorporation.

    On May 9, 2014 a panel comprised of members from American University’s Center for Latin American & Latino Studies (CLALS), together with its counterparts at the IDB’s Culture, Creativity, and Solidarity Affairs Division ( and Broward County business leaders ) will meet will discuss the importance how this report’s new data impacts this international region’s economy as a whole, and on the contribution of creativity as a key element of economic and social development

    Broward Cultural Division invites artists, gallery owners and creative entrepreneurs to hear author and artist Gigi Rosenberg speak at a closing forum for the exhibition Doing Business As…Artist Entrepreneurs, dba 2013, on Tuesday, May 27, 5:30 - 7 pm in the Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. This sixth annual exhibition is located at gallery six and features eleven South Florida artists who are graduates of the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute (AEI).

    AEI is an artist-focused course of study designed to assist individual artists of all disciplines (visual, musicians, writers, media, theater, performing arts) by cultivating and advancing their business skills. The AEI course covers all aspects of developing an artistic business, and helps musicians and artists identify and develop their personal brand, develop strategies for communicating with their target market, raise capital and identify a variety of tools for protecting their work legally.
    Presented on consecutive Saturdays in June 7, 14, 21, 28, 2014 at ArtServe, Inc., 1350 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. The Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute (AEI) will be offered as a series of 18 classes convening over three full-day trainings (9:00AM- 6:00PM), on June 7 ->21, 2014 with a “Business Plan Clinic” on June 28, 2014(9:00AM- 2:00PM).
